La ciudad costera de Massawa contiene el puerto natural más formidable del Mar Rojo y es considerado uno de los lugares mas calientes en la tierra. A través de su larga historia ha pasado bajo control de varios poderes, empezando por el antiguo reino de Abyssinia, los Turcos Otomanes, Italianos, Británicos, y por último Etíopes. Quizás la ciudad más dañada durante la guerra por independencia, aún se pueden observar decenas de estructuras en ruinas.

The coastal city of Massawa contains the most formidable natural harbor in the Red Sea and is considered one of the hottest places on Earth. Throughout its lengthy history it has fallen under control of several powers, starting with the ancient kingdom of Abyssinia, and followed by the Ottoman Turks, Italians, British and the Ethiopians. Perhaps the most damaged city during the war for Independence, dozens of semi destroyed structures still remain.
