La más antigua de las ciudades imperiales Marroquis, se dice que la fundación de Fez ocurrió casi al final del 8º siglo DC. Desde entonces, esta ciudad laberíntica ha permanecido en la vanguardia de la educación, cultura y religión islámica, al igual que como polo de comercio. La Medina, o centro antiguo, esta compuesto por un sinnúmero de callejones que aparentan enrollarse entre si al conectar los 187 barrios que por ley, cada uno debe contener una mezquita, una escuela Quranica, una fuente, panadería y un baño turco (hamman). La Medina de Fez forma parte de la lista UNESCO de patrimonio cultural de la humanidad.

The oldest of the Moroccan imperial cities, the foundation of Fez is said to have occurred sometime around the late 8^th century AD. Since then, this labyrinthic settlement has remained as one of the most important centers of trade, as well as Islamic education, religion and culture. The Medina, or old town, is comprised by en endless number of twisting and meandering alleys which connect the 187 quarters which, by law, must each contain a mosque, a Qur’anic school, a fountain, a bakery and a Turkish bath (hamman). The Medina of Fez forms part of the UNESCO world heritage list.
